Cleaner air starts with better data—and smarter action.
The Urban Air Quality Lab (UAQL) at UNLV advances research and community programs that quantify real-world exposures, evaluate interventions, and translate findings into tools that help Southern Nevada breathe easier.
About UAQL
UAQL integrates exposure science, environmental monitoring, and public health practice to deliver practical solutions—especially for communities facing disproportionate environmental burdens. We build programs that move from measurement → evidence → action, and we share resources through our public platform: LasVegasAirQuality.org.
UAQL initiatives
Two signature initiatives connect UNLV research to community benefit. Each initiative has a public-facing home on LasVegasAirQuality.org, where visitors can find updates, resources, and participation pathways.
Buen Aire Para Todos (Clean Air for All)
A community-centered program that expands access to air-quality information and interventions, helping households reduce exposure to air pollution and extreme heat stress.
- Deploys low-cost sensors and practical mitigation tools to support healthier indoor environments.
- Builds resident-friendly education and outreach, co-developed with local partners.
- Tracks outcomes to improve programs and inform future policy and funding strategies.
Las Vegas Air Quality: Tools, Alerts, and Community Science
UAQL’s public-facing platform that translates research into easy-to-use resources—so residents, schools, and decision-makers can act quickly when air quality changes.
- Centralizes local air-quality information in a community-friendly format.
- Highlights smoke/ozone/dust events and practical steps to reduce exposure.
- Connects UNLV research with community science opportunities and outreach events.
